What parents often ask us

Who decides on my request?

In England the headteacher can only agree leave in term time in exceptional circumstances, and decides how many days. Time off without agreement is recorded as unauthorised absence, and the local authority can then issue a penalty notice.

My child is ill. Do I need to request leave?

No. Illness is not leave. Call the school office before 8.30 on the day.

My child is still four.

Children do not have to be in school until the term after their fifth birthday, so there is no need to request leave. Do let the class teacher know.

What if the answer is no?

The email explains why. If you disagree, reply to it and the headteacher will talk it through with you.

Thank you, we have your request

Our headteacher will look at it. Within five school days you will get an email from The Green Primary with the decision.

Please do not book anything until you have that email. Until then, no leave is agreed.
